Trivandrum Medical College the Oldest Medical College in Kerala, inaugurated in the year 1951, unfortunately did not have an Alumni Association till the year 2005. There were many attempts to start an Alumni Association before, but could not be materialized.
During the AKMG convention December 2004 at Trivandrum, the AKMG leadership under Dr. R. Narendrakumar, (Detroit USA), requested Padmashri Dr. M. Krishnan Nair, one of our eminent Alumnus, founder Director RCC, and Dr. C.S. Madhu, Professor, Radiotherapy, Kottayam Medical College to take initiative to start this Alumni Association. On this basis the Association was registered with Dr. M. Krishnan Nair as President, and Dr. C.S. Madhu as Secretary, and the following founder members.

Unfortunately Dr. C.S. Madhu was transferred to Trichur Medical College and the Association could not function effectively till it was formally inaugurated by the Honorable Minister for Law and Sports Sri. M. Vijayakumar in September 2006 at Medical College Trivandrum. During this first convention, Dr. M. Krishnan Nair was reelected and Dr. C. John Panicker (1970 batch) was elected as the Honorary Secretary. The second convention of the Alumni Association was conducted on 22, 23 of December 2007, in a grand way. Generous contributions from the Alumni especially those working in USA, UK and Gulf countries helped to start a Patient Information Center for the public at Medical College Hospital. During this period the Association started its quarterly magazine under the chief Editorship of Dr. K.A. Kumar. In September 2008, the half-yearly General Body Meeting was conducted along with entertainment programs for the family of Alumni members. A new byelaw was approved by the General Body after detailed discussions. The major change in this byelaw was to limit the term of office bearers for a period of 2 years.
The old auditorium was renovated in a grand way by spending around Rs 20 lakhs by the association. The amount for this renovation was from the contributions of Alumni members from India and abroad. The third Annual convention of the Association was held in this renovated auditorium on 4 Jan 2009. By this time the membership has grown to 1500. During this convention orations were started in the memory of our late teachers Dr. R. Kesavan Nair and Dr. K.N. Pai.
The Medical College Hospital authorities has requested our Association to sponsor the newly constructed BURNS ICU for female patients. The 1974 MBBS batch on the initiative of Dr. Krishnaprasad USA, has agreed to bear the cost of this ward sponsorship which amounts to Rs 3 lakhs yearly. Now, this ward is functioning very well with the staffs appointed by our Association.
The Association General Body elected new office bearers for the period of 2009 to 2011 during this convention. Dr. G. Vijayaraghavan, eminent Cardiologist was elected as President and Dr. K. Dinesh as Honorary Secretary.
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Former President of India visited our campus on Feb 21, 2009, and delivered the 52nd Silver Jubilee Oration. This function was arranged jointly by our Alumni Association, Medical College Students Union, and the Silver Jubilee Oration Committee, and was appreciated by all.
Dr. Seelabhadran Nair Inter Collegiate Football Tournament was restarted on the initiative of our Alumni Association and held from March 4 to March 7, 2009 with the cooperation of Physical Education department of Medical College.
Since the last 3 year association members are sponsoring 25 scholarships of Rs 10,000/- annually to undergraduate students.
Our Association is now managing the Learning Resource Center contributed by the AKMG, USA at Trivandrum Medical College.
Our Present President Dr. G Vijayaraghavan was Honored with Padmashri by Government of India this year for his contributions in the field of Medicine, specially in cardiology. The association is entering its fourth year of existence under the leadership of Padmashri Dr. G. Vijayaraghavan and Dr. K Dinesh.
